Do you ever wonder why some women look great wearing their sunglasses and why sometimes you feel that the glasses are quite off and for some reason do not look good on them?  It’s all because the shape of the sunglasses should complement and go with the shape of your face.  When buying sunglasses it is important to determine the shape as well as your face size to make sure that you choose a pair that will properly fit and give you a stylish look of your own.

Before you go sunglass shopping, measure your face then determine your face shape.  Follow the steps below to measure your face.

Steo 1: Measure Cheekbone to Cheekbone

Place the end of a tape measure just below your eye to find the top of your cheekbone. Measure to the same point on the other side of your face. Write down this number.

Step 2: Measure Jaw Line

Feel below your ears to find the ends of your jawbone. Measure from the end of your jawbone to the other end around the bottom of your face. Write that down too.

Step 3: Measure Face Length

Measure from the center of your hairline straight down over the front of your nose to the bottom of your chin. Write that one down too.

Step 4: Measure Forehead Width

Measure the width of your forehead from one side of your hairline to the otherside halfway between your eyebrows and top hairline. Write this measurement down too.

Then figure out whether you have an oval, round, square or heart shape face to easily figure out the style that is perfect for you.

Oval Shape

An oval shaped face has wider cheekbones abd a gebtle narrowing at the forehead and jaw.  This is the most versatile face shape which means you can pull off round or square frames.  However keep the proportion in mind and try not to go too big or too small for your face.  Some sunglass styles that would work for oval shaped faces are aviators, retro square frames or oversized frames.  Choose sunglasses that cover the face from the eyebrows to the cheekbones.

Round Shape

A round shaped face has softer angles with slightly wider cheekbones and an equally wide forehead and jaw.  To offset teh roundness it s best to choose oversized, angularor rectangular frames.  A cat eye or oversized frame would be a good fit as well as something that is square. The ideal eyewear should lack curved features while emphasizing sharp angular lines that will help elongate the face and make it look thinner and sharper.

Square Shape

A square shaped face has more angular lines with qually wide cheekbones, forehead andn jaw.  To soften these features, choose sunglasses that have soft lines or rimless edges.  Examples of styles that would work well for this face are aviators, browline/butterlies or round frames or any frame style that favors oval or circular curves.  Center or top set temples are the way to go with a square face.

Heart Shape

A heart shaped  also sometines called a rectangular shaped face is widest at the forehead and gradually narrows through the jaw.  Frames that feature wide lower edges with no staight lines along the top work especially well for this facial group because they shift attention downward and elongate the face.  Cat eye style or glasses that feautre rounded edges are ideal for giving the wearer a more balanced look.  Shield, butterfly, rimless or aviator styled frames are best styles for a hear shaped face.
